“There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
Raise your hand if you’ve heard or seen this headline from a security company before:
“Free Security System Sign Up!!*”
“Best Price in Home Security: FREE!*”
“Our Security System Price: FREE!!!*”
Sounds great right? I mean, you’re getting a FREE security system (or in some cases, a significantly reduced price – almost nothing)! What could possibly be wrong with this offer?
*What’s wrong with this is, while you’re busy ogling the “FREE” headlines and thinking about the money you’re saving by going with that “FREE” offer, those companies advertising are quietly smiling behind the scenes. Smiling because once you’ve gotten your “FREE” security system – you’re now locked into an ugly, rotten 36 month monitoring agreement that guarantees them anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 from you over the course of the agreement – and often more.
This money is theirs, of course, regardless if you’re satisfied or not satisfied with their customer service, equipment, or if you want to switch monitoring companies. Well, most of the money anyways. They do allow you to “buy out” of the contract for some kind of percentage of the remaining monitoring fees. How nice.
Now, this scenario isn’t always the case with security system companies – there are some great ones out there who do offer reduced price systems that honestly care about your safety and well-being first – not just your wallet. Keep in mind though; you may receive cheap or outdated equipment with their great offer. For us, it’s not a very comforting feeling knowing that the home security system or business security system protecting your property, valuables and your family – may not work because of poor quality parts or connections. If you’re unsure about your equipment or security system integrity – be sure to call or contact a security system expert to check out your system.
With all of that said, we just want you to be sure you check the fine print and ask as many questions as possible before you grab that great “FREE” or “REDUCED PRICE” deal. Ask about contract length (if any contract is required – some companies – like Charleston Security Systems — don’t require a contract), installation charges, warranties, activation fees, re-activation fees, moving charges and any other hidden charges that may arise. Because after all, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, right?
**The description of companies offering these free deals was taken straight from our customer’s feedback about their previous security system company. After hearing so many complaints about these great “FREE” offers from our new and prospecting customers, we decided to put everything into writing – so our readers don’t make the same mistake with similar offers in the future.
